Win Sold Out Tix to 2.8 Hours Later Tickets for the London Game

Our friends at Slingshot have donated a wonderful prize to us at WZD. Two winners will win 2 tickets each to 2.8 hours later in London, which is the 31st of October to 3rd November! This event is sold out, so this is your only opportunity to get in on the game!

Donate to St. Mungo’s by text to 70070 and enter BRNZ77 and your amount (£3, £5, £10). Be sure to select GiftAid and leave your name so we know who you are. Two donors will be drawn at random to receive the prize.

Starting from a secret city center location, 2.8 Hours Later is a thrill-packed roller coaster ride of zombie movie action.

You will find yourself in a city that has been devastated by a zombie invasion. Your aim: to find the small pockets of survivors hiding out in some amazing locations, while all the time running from the hoards of bloodthirsty zombies roaming the streets between you and your goal. Each location will get you one step closer to resistance HQ – the last safe place in the city. Can you and your friends make it through this nightmarish world and find the Zombie disco?

The game starts at sundown and is 2.8 hours of pure adrenaline. The experience is physically and psychologically challenging and though your adrenaline will keep you going, you’d better be prepared for a night of endurance. This is after all the end of the world!

2.8 Hours Later is currently touring UK cities with date in the USA being scheduled for 2012. Check out the game website for details.

Here are a few quotes from players:

‘I’ve never been so scared in my life.’

‘2.8 hours later….was amazing! I’ve never been so scared but enjoyed myself so much. The actors were amazing and the venues chosen for each part of the adventure were perfect. As we approached the car park we could hear screams – my friend had to literally drag me up the stairs!!’

‘Absolutely amazing night, well done to the guys who put this together – it was superb!’

You can find the game’s well thumbed page here on facebook.

Fundraising for World Zombie Day 2012: How you can help!

One of the many wonderful things about the internet is that it makes raising money for charity beautifully simple. Last year, with very little effort, I managed to raise over £200 for St Mungo’s during World Zombie Day. Here’s how to do it:

1) Visit justgiving.com and set up your account. An easy way of doing this is to login via Facebook – this means you can then post updates direct to your profile to encourage donations.

2) Once you have done this, you’re ready to create a page for the event. Justgiving will ask what charity you are supporting, so search for St Mungo’s. You will then be asked what type of event you are doing: select the “personal challenge” option, and then call it what you will.

3) Customise your page by adding photos of yourself in full make-up, and further details about World Zombie Day. The target is useful as it encourages people to donate to try and make you hit it. Here’s an example in my current page (only just created today, hence the lack of donations – feel free to rectify that if you like!).

4) Add yourself to the “Team Zombie” group: top fundraisers will win prizes! Visit WZD London and click on “Join the Team” (next to the list of Team Members).

5) Finally, the most important part… PROMOTE! PROMOTE! PROMOTE! Last year all I did was email my family and close friends and send them a link, and then post the link a few times on Facebook. You could also email it round work colleagues, or put something up on the office noticeboard. Remember with Facebook to post more than once – often people only log on once a day or less, so if it’s not in their newsfeed they won’t see it. I always donate to people’s charity pages when I see them on Facebook, even if I don’t know them that well, and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

Good luck!

WZD Illustrated Map

This year, our route map has been illustrated by Badaude – London artist and fashion blogger extraordinaire! Badaude is a regular contributor to The Idler and writes and illustrates a weekly column in the Times. Her illustrations have appeared in the Guardian, the Independent, New York Times and Wall Street Journal.

The route is still top secret so you’ll have to wait till the week before the event to see it, but check out her brilliant book ‘London Walks‘ to get an idea of what to expect…

The map will be available for you to download and print before the day, and if you love it  (I know you will!) you may be interested to know that we’ll be auctioning off the original map artwork, along with a copy of the book in aid of St.Mungo’s. A bidding war has already started amongst  team WZD! You can place a bid before the event by emailing becca@worldzombieday.co.uk

Not long to go now folks!

What’s the charity? How can I help?

Greetings Zombies!

Welcome to any of you newly crawled from the grave, and welcome back to long time shufflers who have experienced the groaning, moaning, blood splattered day of pleasure that is WZD London before!

This year the zombie horde will be marching in support of St.Mungo’s, an organisation that does amazing work helping London’s homeless people. You can find more information on the work they do here – http://www.mungos.org/

So, what can you do to help? There are a number of ways:

  • Simply donate to the group’s JustGiving pages here: http://www.justgiving.com/WZDlondon
  • Sponsor our mascot ‘Wozzy’ by texting AQOK92 £AMOUNT to 70070. Share this Instructional Handout with friends or strangers.
  • Set up a JustGiving page yourself and ask your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you. THERE WILL BE PRIZES FOR THE TOP FUNDRAISERS! See the JustGiving website for details of how to set up your own page here: http://www.justgiving.com/
  • You can use a good, old-fashioned paper sponsorship form instead if you prefer. We have one from St.Mungo’s that has a gift aid option. Download the  Sponsorship Form or email becca@worldzombieday.co.uk and I can send you a printable PDF version.
  • Chuck some change in the collection buckets that will be at a few of the venues along the way!
  • Keep checking this blog at The Zombie Digest for more fund-raising ideas or subscribe by email
  • Buy a WZD London T-shirt

Those of you who have come along before will know how many people stop and ask for photos, ask what we’re doing or even get involved and a zombie make-over from helpful members of the horde! This year we will have flyers with the JustGive text number for WZD on them, we  would love you to hand these out and (gently) encourage these people to donate to our cause 🙂
